Search and rescue dog Sebil from KARK completed debris training in Tekirdağ
In Northern Cyprus, the search and rescue dog Sebil, working as part of the Cyprus Search and Rescue Association (KARK), participated in training search operations on debris in Turkey. KARK reported that the trip took place in Tekirdağ, and the training is part of a program conducted following the February 6 earthquakes.
According to KARK, the classes are a continuation of the "Biz Bize Yetmeliyiz" ("We must manage on our own") initiative. During the 75-day program in Turkey, Sebil worked in the complex conditions of a "mosaic" on the debris of a historical factory. The statement noted that the dog demonstrated scenting skills and the ability to find targets in difficult conditions.
It is also reported that Sebil, along with trainer Göker Reşat Özdemir, recently passed the International Search and Rescue Dog Organisation (IRO) exam and received a certificate of participation. According to KARK, this is an "important step" towards the next goal — AFAD accreditation.
The training process is noted to be under the supervision of Şemsettin Şayan. The final stage is planned to be completed in Afyonkarahisar, after which, upon successful completion, Sebil will become the first licensed search and rescue dog with official status for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
