Police Arrest Driver Responsible for Fatal Accident on Nicosia–Famagusta Highway
The police in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have located and arrested the driver who fatally struck a pedestrian on the Nicosia–Famagusta highway and fled the scene.
According to the police press office, the driver involved in the deadly crash has been identified as 47-year-old Mehmet Kıstı. At the time of the accident, he was behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian. The suspect has now been apprehended.
The tragic incident occurred in Northern Cyprus on the night of February 18, near the Çanakale Reservoir along the main Famagusta–Nicosia road. The pedestrian was struck by two vehicles in succession, and one of the drivers fled the scene. Authorities issued a manhunt for the suspect.
The victim, 32-year-old Buğra Kılıç, tragically died from his injuries at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle has been taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing.
