Prime Minister Ünal Üstel calls for sanity and calm following events at Parliament
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel issued an appeal on March 31, 2026, following the incidents that took place in front of the Parliament building in Nicosia. He expressed his sympathies to the injured security forces personnel and wished a speedy recovery to the citizens who sustained injuries.
Üstel emphasized that the state supports the personnel ensuring public order and safety. The Prime Minister noted the importance of upholding the law and urged those who came to assert their rights to do so peacefully and with restraint to avoid escalation.
In his statement, he added that public unity and safety are more important than political disagreements. Üstel called on all parties for calm, mutual respect, and adherence to legal order, expressing confidence that if these principles are followed, the situation will be resolved as soon as possible.
The report also notes that today's plenary session of Parliament will not take place. Residents in Northern Cyprus are advised to follow official government announcements and, if possible, avoid the Parliament area until the situation is clarified.
