Iran's President Killed in Helicopter Crash

Iran's President, Ibrahim Raisi, has died in a helicopter crash. There were no survivors from the tragic aviation incident.

The helicopter carrying Iran's president lost communication on May 19th. It crashed in the mountains. Search efforts for debris and occupants onboard lasted over 12 hours. Early this morning, rescuers discovered what remained of the burned helicopter. It was completely destroyed in the crash.

The Iranian Red Crescent found no signs that the occupants of the president's helicopter survived. According to official reports, all passengers and crew members perished.

Among those onboard the president's helicopter was the Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

It is known that the day before, shortly before the tragedy, Ibrahim Raisi met with Azerbaijan's President, Ilham Aliyev. After official events, the Iranian leader's delegation boarded a Bell-212 helicopter and took off towards Tehran. Thirty minutes later, the aircraft crashed in the mountains of eastern Azerbaijan.

The crashed helicopter was found 30 kilometers from the village of Taval. According to preliminary data, the cause of the accident was dense fog and a malfunction in the electronics.

Iran's Vice President, Mohsen Mansouri, has confirmed the deaths of Iranian leader Ibrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian.
