The President of the TRNC made a statement regarding the monkeypox outbreak
The President of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, made a statement regarding the outbreak of monkeypox virus. The relevant authorities will take the necessary measures as soon as possible.
In his address, the leader of Northern Cyprus reminded that on August 14, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a "public health emergency of international concern" due to the outbreak of monkeypox (Mpox), which has affected Africa.
The Turkish Cypriot leader noted that following the declaration of a global emergency, general information about the virus and its symptoms has been disseminated, but no regulatory measures regarding the epidemic have been established yet.
Ersin Tatar emphasized that, due to the spread of the disease, "individual and then public measures" need to be implemented in the TRNC. As with any infectious disease, priority measures include attention to personal hygiene and avoiding close contact in public places.
- As part of the state's primary responsibilities, to protect the health of our people and visitors to our country, under the auspices of the President, Prime Minister, Ministry of Health, High Committee on Infectious Diseases, Ministry of National Education and Culture, Department of Immigration, Turkish Cypriot Medical Association, Turkish Cypriot Physicians Association, and representatives of relevant institutions and organizations, necessary consultations will be held as soon as possible, and a roadmap will be determined, - stated the president.
The leader of Northern Cyprus urged the population "not to rely on misleading statements about monkeypox and to act in accordance with statements made by the relevant state authorities".
It should be noted that earlier, the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association called on the Ministry of Health to implement mandatory screening for monkeypox upon entry into the TRNC.
