President of TRNC to Make First Visit to Australia
Ersin Tatar is set to become the first president of TRNC to visit Australia. He departed from the island to attend events marking the 80th anniversary of Turkish Cypriot migration to Australia.
At Ercan Airport, President Tatar was bid farewell by Zorlu Töre, President of the Assembly of the Republic, Dursun Oğuz, Minister of Internal Affairs, Deputy Brigadier General Kadir Bayraklı, and other officials.
Addressing a press conference at Ercan Airport, President Ersin Tatar mentioned that he was invited to the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of Turkish Cypriots' resettlement in Australia two years ago. Over this period, considerable effort has been made to ensure the success of both the visit and the event. President Tatar expressed his gratitude to the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Australia, as well as the leaders of Turkish Cypriot organizations and institutions for their support and organization.
He also highlighted that there are currently over one hundred thousand Turkish Cypriots residing in Australia, according to various estimates. Migration waves, originating after the Second World War, eventually led many to settle in Australia.
Turkish Cypriots living in Australia frequently visit TRNC and actively contribute to the country's economy through investments.
Accompanying President Tatar on the trip are his special advisor on international relations and diplomacy, Hussein Ishiksal, and the president's external press officer, Kerem Haser.
After nearly a 24-hour flight, the TRNC delegation will arrive in Melbourne, then proceed to Sydney, before returning to the island via Melbourne in eight days.
