Turkish President Calls TRNC an Inseparable Part of the Turkic World
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took part in an informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), held in Budapest. During his address at the forum, Erdoğan described the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as an inseparable part of the Turkic world. As part of the summit, the TRNC was granted observer status in the Turkic Academy.
Erdoğan emphasized the importance of strengthening the Organization’s solidarity with the Turkish Cypriot people, whom he called an integral part of the broader Turkic family. He also reminded attendees that the most recent meeting of the OTS Council of Elders was hosted in the TRNC earlier in May.
“We believe that the family portrait of the Turkic world will always be incomplete without the TRNC. That’s why today’s decision to grant the TRNC observer status in the Turkic Academy is such an important and meaningful step forward. We hope the day will soon come when the TRNC joins our organization as a full member,” Erdoğan said.
The TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the decision, describing it as a significant achievement.
“This event underscores the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between the Turkish Cypriots and the Turkic world, now further reinforced at an institutional level. It represents a tangible and important result of our Ministry’s consistent diplomatic efforts in this direction,” the Ministry stated.
The Budapest Declaration, adopted by the heads of state at the summit, affirmed the TRNC’s status as an inseparable part of the Turkic world. It also expressed solidarity with the Turkish Cypriot people and their equal and inalienable rights.
“These clear statements in the Declaration reflect the Turkic world’s commitment to unity and solidarity, and send a strong, unequivocal message to the international community regarding our shared stance,” the Ministry concluded.
