Drunk driver causes accident on the Famagusta–Karpas highway: two in intensive care
In Northern Cyprus, on the Famagusta–Karpas highway on the evening of October 13, 2025, driver E.N. (34) collided with another car while under the influence of alcohol, resulting in two passengers sustaining serious injuries and being admitted to the intensive care unit.
According to the police press office, E.N., with a blood alcohol concentration of 111 milligrams, was driving from Famagusta towards Karpas when, near the Peridot car rental office, he rear-ended another vehicle moving in the same direction.
From the impact, the car driven by R.A. (male, 27) veered off the road and overturned. E.N.’s car crashed into a sign and the fence of a residential house before coming to a stop.
Driver R.A. and passenger H.S. (female, 27) sustained serious injuries. After receiving first aid at the Famagusta State Hospital, they were transported to and admitted at the Near East Hospital in Yeni Boğaziçi, where they remain under observation in intensive care.
The police reported that E.N. was detained and that an investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.
