Water supply to be cut off for 4 days in Northern Cyprus due to repairs at Geçitköy station

The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) announced repair works at the Geçitköy Pumping Station (Geçitköy Terfi Merkezi). As a result, the main water pipeline from Turkey will be temporarily shut down from September 9 to 12.
It is noted that on August 8, due to a large-scale power outage in the TRNC water supply project, 13 damages were recorded, 12 of which were repaired without the need to cut off water. However, fixing the remaining defect required halting the entire water flow through the pipeline.
During the repair period, centralized water supply will stop, but water will still be provided from local sources — reservoirs, wells, and dams located on the island.
Citizens and municipalities are advised to use water as economically as possible, as supplies will be significantly limited during this period.
Which areas and cities will be most affected?
According to published information, the repair will affect the entire territory of Northern Cyprus — the water supply will be suspended “across the republic.”
No specific lists of cities, districts, or settlements that may be especially affected have been given officially. However, since all regions of the TRNC depend on centralized water supply through the Geçitköy station, it can be assumed that:
All major cities and regions (for example, Nicosia—Lefkoşa, Kyrenia—Girne, Famagusta—Gazimağusa, İskele, Güzelyurt, Lefke, and others) will experience shortages, especially if local sources cannot meet demand.
Both residential and agricultural areas, where water is needed for irrigation and other needs, will be affected.
