Parents and teachers urged not to send children to Lefke Gazi Lisesi after two earthquakes
On November 12, parents and teachers of Lefke Gazi Lisesi in Lefke, Northern Cyprus, told Kıbrıs Postası that two earthquakes had heightened concerns about the condition of the school buildings. They called on parents not to send their children to school and to support a class boycott.
According to parents and teachers, some of the school buildings are “on the verge of collapse,” posing a risk to students. Members of the teaching staff noted that during recent events, teachers led students to safe areas away from the buildings.
Parents and teachers urged other parents not to send their children to school and announced their intention to organize a class boycott; according to them, teachers will support this initiative. In one statement, it was noted that students experienced fear and panic due to audible cracks and damage.
As of the time of publication, there has been no official comment from the administration of Lefke Gazi Lisesi. Parents and teachers demand urgent measures to ensure student safety and an inspection of the buildings by authorized bodies.
