Russians and Ukrainians Lead in Property Purchase Applications in TRNC
The Minister of Interior of the TRNC, Dursun Oğuz, summarized the past year and answered questions from deputies at the General Assembly meeting. The Ministry of Interior's budget of 4 billion 852 million 810 thousand Turkish Liras was approved by the majority vote.
According to the minister, this year, with the approval of the ministry, about 700 people became citizens of the TRNC, and approximately 600 people became citizens by the decision of the Council of Ministers.
Moreover, the Minister reported that since the adoption of the Property Law in May this year, approximately 6,800 applications for property purchases have been submitted. Among these, 1,083 applications were for more than one property.
Russians topped the list of applications for property purchases in Northern Cyprus, followed by Ukrainians, Israelis, and Germans.
Noting that many meetings were held within the framework of the foreign property law, Dursun Oğuz stated that the real estate sector in the TRNC was significantly impacted by the arrest of Simon Aykut in the Republic of Cyprus.
- The adoption of the law alone cannot be the reason for the sector's decline, - the minister believes.
He also mentioned that the Property Commission had received about 1 billion TL, and 550 million TL had been allocated to "Housing Purchases".
Among other interesting figures, it was noted that there are 853 individuals held in the Central Prison of the TRNC. The top crime category is drug-related offenses, followed by sexual violence.
In 2024, there were 597 applications for parole in Northern Cyprus, with 258 approved.
Approximately 6,000 people benefited from the immigration amnesty.
