SunExpress Flight Attempts Departure from Ercan to Izmir Three Times
A SunExpress flight from Ercan Airport to Izmir faced multiple delays as it attempted to take off three times without success due to an issue with the cargo compartment door, which wouldn’t close.
The incident occurred the day before; the flight was scheduled to depart Northern Cyprus for Izmir at 8:45 AM. However, according to passengers, the plane stalled during takeoff, causing panic in the cabin due to sudden braking.
The aircraft then tried to take off two more times, but both attempts failed as it braked again just before lift-off.
According to Kibris Postasi, the problem was identified as an unclosed cargo compartment door, based on information provided by the flight attendants.
Among the passengers were individuals with diabetes and high blood pressure who were unable to access their medications left in the cargo compartment, as well as demobilized soldiers who had served in the TRNC.
Passengers reported that the airline did not issue any official statements about the incident. A team of technical specialists was dispatched to address the issue.
According to Ercan Airport’s online board on Flightradar24, the flight finally departed for its destination at 11:30 PM.
