Pegasus Flight Fails to Land at Ercan Due to GPS Failure, Returns to Antalya
A Pegasus Airlines aircraft operating flight PC1870 from Antalya to Ercan was unable to land at Ercan Airport due to a GPS system malfunction and was forced to return to Antalya.
The liner departed from Antalya Airport at 07:15 Turkish time, heading for Ercan Airport in Northern Cyprus. However, as it approached the island, the crew was informed of a GPS system failure at Ercan Airport, making landing impossible.
According to Pegasus, the aircraft circled over Cyprus about five times before the pilot decided to return to Antalya to avoid risking passenger safety. The plane landed safely at Antalya Airport.
After landing, passengers were temporarily accommodated in the terminal while the issue of further flight execution was being resolved.
It was later reported that the GPS malfunction at Ercan Airport had been fixed. Passengers were re-boarded, and the aircraft is expected to take off for Ercan again.
