Carob harvesting in Gazimağusa to begin on August 11: authorities warn against early collection
The District Administration of Gazimağusa has officially announced that the carob (Ceratonia siliqua) harvest in the region will begin on Monday, August 11, 2025. Any attempts to collect the fruits before this date will be considered a violation and will result in administrative penalties.
Authorities urged residents and farmers to strictly adhere to the designated date, emphasizing that early harvesting is not only illegal but also damages the quality of the crop and the ecosystem. The district administration’s statement underlined that any harvesting activity prior to August 11 will be treated as an offense subject to fines.
The harvesting date was set in cooperation with agricultural services, based on assessments of fruit ripeness. The decision has also been communicated to local village leaders.
The carob tree plays a traditional and significant role in Cyprus’s agriculture, and authorities aim to regulate its harvest to ensure sustainable use of natural resources and fair distribution of the yield.
Further information can be obtained from the Gazimağusa Municipality or agricultural authorities.
