Details have emerged about the mass traffic accident
According to police information, trucks carrying loads of 5 tons or more were prohibited from driving on the section between the underground and overpass of the main Kyrenia-Nicosia road and the St. Hilarion junction.
Despite this, the TIR truck with license plate TPF 807, driven by Ibrahim Arlı (M-36), violated this restriction by traveling towards Kyrenia, ignoring traffic signs and road markings. Along the way, the driver excessively used the brakes, causing them to overheat. As he approached the Ezic traffic lights on the Kyrenia-Alsancak ring road, the brakes failed, and he lost control, crashing into the rear of the sedan vehicle LC 273, driven by Kazım Önder (M-59), which was moving in the same direction.
As a result of the collision, vehicle LC 273 was pushed forward and struck the rear of another sedan with license plate MV 935, driven by Burhan Uğur Akaş (M-20), and the left side of a military vehicle driven by Muhammet Dede Düzgün (M-23).
The truck TPF 807 also crashed into the central divider, a light pole, a traffic sign, and metal barriers within the median, then entered the opposite lane, hitting the right side of a car with plate VH 753, driven by Mirgamat Mamedzade (F-25), the front of vehicle MR 932, driven by Sümer Kaya (M-68), the front of car MS 124, driven by Yunus Himmet Tez (M-48), and the metal guardrails at the roadside before coming to a stop.
Injured in the accident were LC 273 driver Kazım Önder and passenger Emine Altıntaş (F-30), as well as VH 753 driver Mirgamat Mamedzade and passenger İbrahim Cuma İnal (M-27). They received treatment at Dr. Akçiçek State Hospital in Kyrenia and Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia and were later discharged.
MR 932 driver Sümer Kaya, who sustained rib fractures, was treated at Near East University Hospital and remained under observation.
The TIR driver Ibrahim Arlı, who drove vehicle TPF 807, was arrested.
