Wedding in Northern Cyprus: Costs Reach the Level of an Investment Project
In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, holding a wedding involves significant expenses, increasingly prompting young couples to consider more modest celebration options.
Even preparing the documents for marriage registration comes at a considerable cost. Certificates, medical tests, and other official papers cost more than 2,000 lira, and with taxes and fees for the registration hall, the total reaches 4,000–5,000 lira.
Next in the budget is a major expense — the wedding dress. A standard model without custom tailoring costs on average 30–40 thousand lira, while exclusive designs start from 60 thousand. Added to this are accessories, shoes, and hairdressing services.
An additional cost is traditional treats. For example, the sweet bastıç costs about 26 lira per piece. For 2,000 guests, this amounts to around 52 thousand lira.
The organization of the ceremony and banquet is another significant expense. A wedding in a banquet hall with the traditional “congratulations” format costs from 150 to 160 thousand lira. An outdoor cocktail party will cost over 200 thousand lira.
Equally important is photo and video coverage: professional team services start from 1,000 euros, which is about 36 thousand lira at the current exchange rate.
As a result, the total wedding expenses can exceed half a million lira. Experts note that many couples prefer to postpone or simplify the celebration format, considering such costs unjustifiably high.
