African Dust Cloud to Linger Over TRNC All Weekend
The Meteorology Department of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has issued an urgent warning as airborne dust from North Africa sweeps across the region, significantly reducing air quality. The dust is expected to remain in the atmosphere from today through Monday.
According to the forecast, the warning is in effect from midnight on Friday, May 9, until the end of the day on Monday, May 12.
“As dust from North Africa is expected to pollute the air in our region, we urge residents—especially those with respiratory sensitivities—to take precautions,” the department stated.
The last similar warning was issued in early April, when a similar dust cloud from the African continent affected Cyprus.
