A Turkish businessman is buying a football club from Slovenia
Renowned Turkish entrepreneur Adjun Ilijaly is set to purchase the Slovenian team "Maribor". The businessman already owns the English Premier League club "Hull City".
In an interview with the European publication Sportklub, Adjun Ilijaly noted that they were looking for a team that could replicate the success story of "Hull City". The search lasted for about two months. As a result, the choice fell on one of the clubs in the Slovenian championship.
"After studying which club in Slovenia suits us best, we decided it was 'Maribor'," the publication quoted the businessman as saying.
The businessman expressed confidence that Slovenia is "a great sporting country with great potential." He also added that he recently visited Maribor: he really liked the city itself, as well as the stadium and the people who manage the football club.
"I respect other clubs; 'Mura' is very successful, 'Olympia' is a big name in Europe, but so is 'Maribor'. In the end, a decision has to be made. We and the team believe this is a great project, with wonderful fans," said the Turkish businessman.
