Turkey Now Holds the Title for the World's Most Expensive Passport
The company Henley & Partners has recently published a new ranking of the world's most expensive passports. Residents of Turkey now bear the highest costs for obtaining an international passport.
According to the research, citizens of the Republic of Turkey will have to pay 8,623.30 Turkish lira (approximately $268 or 24,000 rubles) for a 10-year international passport.
Mexico secures the second spot in the ranking. The cost of obtaining a passport in this country is $234 (around 21,000 rubles). Rounding out the top three countries with the most expensive passports is last year's leader, Australia. Here, the fee for obtaining the document is $228 (approximately 20,000 rubles).
Following closely are the United States ($167, approximately 15,000 rubles), with New Zealand closing the top five. The passport of this country is priced at $128 (approximately 11,500 rubles).
It's worth noting that in most European countries, the cost of passport issuance varies from $33 in Spain to $94 in France. In Greece, obtaining an international passport costs around 85 euros (a little over 8,000 rubles), while in the Republic of Cyprus, it ranges from 80 to 120 euros.
Despite its high cost, the Turkish passport has a relatively modest “power” rating, determined by the number of countries accessible without a visa. Holders of the Turkish passport can visit only 118 countries visa-free. For comparison, Mexican passport holders enjoy visa-free entry to 161 countries, while Australians can enter 190 states without a visa.
