Fire Damage in the TRNC Exceeds 1.5 Million Lira in One Week
In the past week, Northern Cyprus has seen 12 fires and 20 other incidents requiring emergency response. According to the weekly report from the Chief Police Department, the total damage caused by these fires has surpassed 1.575 million Turkish lira.
The fires were likely sparked by various causes, including electrical short circuits, sparks from wires rubbing together in the wind, grease fires in kitchen exhausts, unattended cigarette butts, arson targeting hay bales, and a burning candle that fell over.
Besides battling fires, firefighters also carried out several rescues. They saved cats trapped in car engine compartments, helped people in distress, rescued a dog that had fallen into a swimming pool, and pulled a goat out of a well.
In addition to firefighting and rescues, the fire department worked to ensure road safety, conducted fire prevention activities and educational sessions, and escorted the transportation of deceased individuals to hospitals for investigations.
