Turkish-Cypriot Woman Caught at Paphos Airport with Four Suitcases of Smuggled Cigarettes

At Paphos Airport, customs authorities intercepted an attempt to smuggle four suitcases filled with contraband cigarettes out of the country.

According to the police press office, the large shipment of duty-free goods was discovered at the airport the previous evening. The woman, of Turkish-Cypriot descent, arrived at Paphos Airport from the TRNC with plans to travel to the United Kingdom.

Her behavior during passport control raised suspicions among customs officers. A search of her four large suitcases revealed a total of 166 packs of cigarettes and 750 packages of tobacco.

It was noted that the woman was accompanied by her minor child.

She was arrested for the offense and later released after paying a settlement fine of nine thousand euros.
