New State Hospital in Nicosia: Protocol Signed in Ankara
A new chapter in healthcare is set to begin for Northern Cyprus as officials in Ankara have signed a protocol to build a brand-new 320-bed state hospital in Nicosia. The agreement also includes the renovation of the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Medical Center.
The protocol was signed by Türkiye’s Minister of Health, Kemal Memişoğlu, and the TRNC Minister of Health, Hakan Dinçyürek.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Memişoğlu highlighted the importance of supporting the Turkish Cypriot community:
“Today, we continue to stand by the Turkish Cypriot people with the same commitment and determination. We are working to improve the quality of services, especially in healthcare. This new hospital campus is a major step forward for Cyprus. We're starting this project today and aim to complete it as soon as possible so we can open it together,” he said.
Minister Dinçyürek expressed his appreciation to the Turkish government and Health Ministry for their continued cooperation and support, adding:
“The support Türkiye provides to the Turkish Cypriot people is invaluable—it goes far beyond any material measure.”
Following the signing, the tender process will begin in Northern Cyprus. Once finalized, construction of the new hospital will commence.
The project includes not only the construction of the new hospital but also the renovation of the existing Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia. With both projects happening in parallel, the total number of hospital beds will increase by 150%.
