Main Water Pipeline Damaged in Kyrenia Due to Unauthorized Works
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has reported serious damage to the main water supply line resulting from unauthorized excavation work carried out by the Kyrenia Municipality on March 17, 2026.
According to official data, major accidents occurred at two points simultaneously on the main pipeline built under the water supply project. The cause was uncontrolled excavation.
Specialists from the Water Resources Department and the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) have already begun repairing the damage. However, until the repairs are completed, the water supply to settlements on the Kyrenia – Tatlısu line will be temporarily suspended.
Authorities warned of possible disruptions and stated that alternative water sources would be utilized during the work. Residents have been urged to use water sparingly.
The Ministry also promised to provide regular updates to the public on the progress of the restoration work.
