Water from Turkey has been restored to homes in the TRNC
Repair works at the Gecitkoy pumping station in Northern Cyprus have been completed. Municipalities across the country have resumed water supply from Turkey.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the TRNC, repairs to fix technical issues at the outlet of the Gecitkoy pumping station, which transfers water from the dam to the Chamlibel purification facilities, were completed around midnight.
After the completion of repair works, the pumps at the Gecitkoy station were activated, and water pumping for testing purposes began. The agency's statement notes that efforts to return the entire system to normal and to supply water to drinking water reservoirs continued throughout the night. Today, water should return to the homes of residents in the region.
Recall that repairs at the Gecitkoy pumping station, as part of the water supply project from the Republic of Turkey to the TRNC, began on Tuesday at 8:00. Water supply across the entire island was temporarily suspended during the works.
The population was urged to use water consciously and economically. Additional information will be provided to the public regarding the progress of repair works at the pumping station.
In Iskele, traffic movement towards Long Beach was hindered yesterday evening due to a water pipe burst.
