Construction site closed in Famagusta after concrete collapse
In Famagusta, a decision was made to shut down a construction site where a collapse occurred during concrete pouring. This was reported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
The inspection revealed serious violations at the site. According to the official statement, the construction company’s activities have been suspended until all deficiencies are eliminated.
According to the decree, work on the construction of two buildings on the site has been completely halted. The reasons were non-compliance with occupational safety rules, lack of protective barriers, and the use of unsafe working methods. These violations fall under the Occupational Safety Law of 2008 and related regulations, which allow for suspension of construction when threats to workers are identified.
Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu personally visited the scene. He stressed that protecting people’s health and lives is the top priority and stated that his ministry will not tolerate negligence in the construction sector. The minister also noted that inspections of construction sites will continue in strict order.
“Violation of safety rules is not just a breach of the law, but a direct disregard for human life,” Hasipoğlu said. He urged construction companies not to cut costs on safety measures and called on workers to strictly follow the established standards.
Work on the site can only resume after all hazardous conditions are eliminated and compliance with safety standards is confirmed.
