80-year-old man in Girne sentenced to 8 years in prison for sexual abuse of children
In Girne, a verdict has been issued in the case of 80-year-old Rifat Özer, who was accused of repeatedly sexually abusing two underage girls, one of whom is a child with a disability, and the other being 9 years old at the time of the crimes.
The case was heard in the Girne High Criminal Court. Following the trial, the court unanimously found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 8 years of imprisonment.
According to the case materials, the crimes were committed at different times on the premises of staff housing, where the defendant worked as a gardener. During the trial, witness testimonies were heard and submitted evidence was examined, which the court deemed sufficient to issue a guilty verdict.
The court’s decision has entered into legal force.
