Two Traffic Accidents in Girne and Famagusta: One Detained, One Injured
In Northern Cyprus, police reported two traffic accidents that occurred in Girne and Famagusta. The incidents took place yesterday: in Girne around 21:00, and in Famagusta at 00:05.
In Girne, on Mercan Street, 30-year-old Damla Uçar, driving under the influence of alcohol (219 mg), lost control of her vehicle (license plate VN 996) while heading north. She veered off the road to the right and collided with a parked car (KU 290) belonging to 61-year-old Mehmet Kasım Batuk. The impact caused the VN 996 to overturn and land on its roof. According to police, Uçar was taken to Akçiçek Hospital in Girne and was detained upon her discharge at her own request.
In Famagusta, on Celil Hüseyin Street, 31-year-old İbrahim Görkem Güvener, driving car GE 160, failed to obey a "Stop" sign at the intersection with Talat Cafer Street. By failing to yield to main road traffic, he entered the intersection and collided with a motorcycle (SR 293) driven by 22-year-old Ahmad Aman. The motorcyclist suffered a fractured right leg, was treated at Famagusta State Hospital, and has since been discharged.
Police recorded violations including driving under the influence and failure to yield at a stop sign.
