“Barrier-Free Garden” opened in Kyrenia for special school students
On December 4, 2025, the “Barrier-Free Garden” was opened in the courtyard of the Special and Vocational Education School in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus. The ceremony took place within the framework of December 3 — International Day of Persons with Disabilities, with the participation of the social team of Merit International.
The renovated area, supported by the social department of Merit International, is intended to provide students with special educational needs a freer, more comfortable, and active learning environment.
The opening was attended by Merit International Social Affairs Coordinator Mine Gürses, Deputy Coordinator Devrim Metin, Merittta Club Director Burak Sarıkash, and Parks and Gardens Manager of Merit Royal Hotels Alpai Arslan. The mascot “Meritta” accompanied the event, interacting with the children.
Mine Gürses noted that cooperation with the school continues, and every small improvement in the learning environment has a tangible effect; the “Barrier-Free Garden” is cited as an example of such work. The company stated that its social projects will continue.
For families in Northern Cyprus, this means expanding learning opportunities for children with special needs specifically in Kyrenia: the schoolyard is adapted to their needs, allowing the space to be used for more active activities and recreation.
