Fire Risk in Residential Areas of İskele on the Rise
Authorities in İskele have identified high-risk zones for residential fires, with the growing number of high-rise buildings increasing the threat in popular areas such as Long Beach, Bafra, Boğaz, and Ergazi.
Measures to prevent fires in residential buildings were discussed at an expanded district security council meeting, chaired by the district governor of İskele and held at the regional office of the Civil Defense Organization.
The areas deemed most at risk include Long Beach, the Bafra tourist region, the Boğaz-Molto market area, and the Ergazi-Kurtuluş district.
In response, officials emphasized the urgent need to expand fire response capabilities by increasing the number of specialized vehicles and trained personnel. Decisions were made to station fire trucks closer to the İskele pier, establish a fire station in Mehmetçik, and ensure adequate water storage in high-risk zones.
Additionally, the council agreed on measures to regulate building heights based on firefighting capacity, inspect fire hydrants, and enhance coordination between relevant agencies.
The meeting was attended by İskele District Governor Ertuğrul Toroslu, 4th Infantry Regiment Security Forces Commander Hüseyin Ulak, İskele Mayor Hasan Sadıkoğlu, Mehmetçik-Büyükkonuk Mayor Fatma Çimen Tuğlu, as well as senior officials from the fire department, urban planning office, labor inspection, Turkish Cypriot Electricity Authority, and other key institutions.
