Student arrested in Lefkoşa for drug trafficking
In Lefkoşa, Northern Cyprus, the Anti-Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Directorate conducted an operation during which student F.I. was arrested. The incident occurred on October 27, 2025, in the Göçmenköy area. The detainee appeared before the court.
Police officer Ali Yesildal presented case details in court. According to his testimony, during a search of the apartment where the arrested individual lived with a roommate, 38 grams of cannabis in 41 separate packages ready for sale were found in F.I.’s bedroom. In addition, electronic scales, packaging scissors, gelatin, paper scraps and cash presumed to be proceeds from drug sales were discovered in a shoebox: 30,000 Turkish lira, 340 pounds sterling, 330 euros, and 380 US dollars.
The roommate had been previously detained, but no connection to the crime was found and he was released. The court reviewed the case of student F.I. Further judicial decisions have not been disclosed.
Residents of Northern Cyprus are urged to remain vigilant regarding drug distribution, especially in student districts such as Göçmenköy. The operation highlights the authorities’ efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking.
