A suspect detained in Lefkoşa for 55 days of illegal residence in the TRNC
On February 8, 2026, F.A. was detained in Lefkoşa on suspicion of illegally residing in the territory of the TRNC. He was stopped during a check on Istanbul Street at around 00:30 and detained by police following a migration inspection.
During the court hearing, police officer Mehmet Portakal stated that the inspection established that from November 15, 2025, F.A. had remained in Northern Cyprus for 55 days without authorization, after which he was caught and detained.
At the request of the police, within the framework of the investigation, a two-day period of detention was sought to establish the circumstances of the suspect’s stay in the republic and to initiate deportation procedures. Senior Judge Meltem Dündar, who delivered the ruling, granted the request and ordered the two-day detention of F.A. at a police station.
The actions of the police and the court’s decision are aimed at carrying out investigative measures and completing the necessary procedures in relation to a person who was in the country without the required documents.
