Drug Trafficking Suspect Remanded in Custody in Nicosia
A court in Nicosia has ordered the detention of U.O., a 42-year-old Nigerian national suspected of selling drugs.
According to police, on February 20, 2026, at approximately 15:00, crime prevention officers stopped the suspect's vehicle, which was being driven suspiciously. During a search of the suspect and the car, 10 grams of cannabis were found, divided into six packets and ready for sale.
Police later searched the man's home in Ortaköy, where they discovered 135 grams of cannabis in nine packets, 11 tablets of an unknown substance, as well as 102,000 Turkish Liras and 445 British Pounds in cash, allegedly obtained from drug sales.
The suspect was detained at the scene and, during interrogation, voluntarily provided a statement admitting that on January 10, 2026, he had purchased 197 grams of cannabis and 11 tablets, some of which he had sold for profit.
The seized drug packets have been sent for fingerprint analysis, and two mobile phones for data analysis.
The police stated that the case will be heard in criminal court and highlighted the suspect's flight risk. Consequently, the court ordered him to remain in custody for a period of up to two months.
