Robotic urology surgeries performed for the first time in Northern Cyprus

Two surgeries using robotic surgery were successfully performed at the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital. TRNC Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek announced this, calling the event an important milestone in the development of the country's healthcare system.
According to the minister, one operation was performed on a 72-year-old patient with prostate cancer, the second on a 67-year-old woman with urological and gynecological complications. Both operations were successful, and the patients' condition is assessed as good.
Dinçyürek noted that robotic surgery has long been used in leading clinics worldwide, especially in the treatment of prostate cancer, and its return to the country's medical practice after a long break is a significant step forward.
"Patients recover faster, with fewer losses, and can be discharged in the shortest possible time," the minister emphasized.
The operations were performed by urologist Necmi Bayraktar together with Associate Professor Ahmet Güdeloğlu from Hacettepe University. According to Bayraktar, the prostate cancer removal surgery using the robotic system was the first such procedure in the country.
He explained that previously such interventions required large incisions and long hospitalization. Robotic technology allows for more precise and safer operations, reducing patient recovery time.
According to the doctor, the patient is preparing for discharge less than 24 hours after the prostate cancer intervention.
The Ministry of Health also announced plans to expand the use of robotic surgery not only in urology but also in general surgery and other medical fields.
