Commemorative Events for Atatürk's Death Anniversary in TRNC
Northern Cyprus will hold ceremonies to mark the 86th anniversary of the death of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic. These commemorations will take place across all municipalities on Sunday, November 10th.
At 09:05 AM – the exact time of Atatürk's passing – a nationwide minute of silence will be observed, accompanied by the sound of sirens. State flags will be flown at half-mast.
In Nicosia, the first ceremony will begin at 09:02 AM in front of the Atatürk Monument. The ceremony will start with wreath-laying, followed by speeches from the President of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, Turkey's Ambassador to Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim, and Major General Sebahattin Kılınç, Commander of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces. Afterward, they will sign the Special Memorial Book.
The commemorations will continue at 09:30 AM at the Atatürk Cultural Center in Nicosia. After the minute of silence, the Nicosia Anatolian High School Choir of Fine Arts will perform. The program will conclude with an oratorio presented by the school.
In Kyrenia, the ceremony will start at 08:55 AM in front of the Atatürk Monument with wreath-laying, followed by a minute of silence and lowered flags as the national anthem is played.
In Famagusta, the ceremony will begin at 08:50 AM with wreath-laying at the Victory Monument. A teacher from Kanbulat-Özgürlük High School and an officer from the Turkish Cypriot forces will give speeches.
In Iskele, the ceremony will begin at 08:45 AM at Ecevit Square.
In Güzelyurt, the ceremony will start at 08:55 AM with wreath-laying in front of the Atatürk Monument.
A memorial ceremony will take place in Lefke at 08:55 AM, also in front of the Atatürk Monument.
Additional commemorative events will be held in Akdoğan, Geçitkale, and Mehmetçik, where wreath-laying ceremonies will take place at the Atatürk Monuments in these areas.
Additionally, the Taekwondo Federation will host a competition at the "Eurasia" Center in Kyrenia, starting at 10:00 AM.
