A meeting of the Minimum Wage Commission was held in TRNC
A meeting of the Minimum Wage Commission was held today in Northern Cyprus. The parties reached a compromise and agreed to continue negotiations on Tuesday.
According to the newspaper "Yeniduzen," participants emphasized that the upcoming new minimum wage will exceed the inflation rate of the last four months, which is 22.98%.
In addition, an agreement was reached that the new wage will be implemented retroactively, starting from May 1st.
Before the meeting, Minister of Labor Sadiq Gardianoglu emphasized that the legal basis is laid for adjusting the minimum wage every four months.
The current minimum wage in Northern Cyprus was set in early January 2024. As of today, it is 24,000 Turkish Lira for private sector employees and 34,430 Turkish Lira for civil servants.
Earlier, the Statistical Institute of TRNC announced an inflation rate of 6.91 percent in April. Compared to December of last year, prices have risen by 22.98%, with annual inflation at 95.60%.
At the same time, the Cyprus and Turkey Public Servants Union (KTAMS) announced that the poverty line for a family of four as of April 30th is 23,559 Turkish Lira.
