TRNC clarifies registration procedure for students admitted to Turkish universities for the 2025/26 academic year
The Department of Higher Education and External Relations of the TRNC Ministry of Education has published guidelines for graduates of Northern Cyprus schools who have obtained places at universities in Turkey. Students must appear in person for registration; candidates under 18 must be accompanied by their parents. YKS results are available on the ÖSYM website, and registration deadlines and procedures must be checked on the websites of the respective universities: failure to comply with deadlines results in the loss of admission rights.
For registration, it is first necessary to create an account on the YOBİS portal and complete the "Student Registration Platform" section. The usual list of documents includes: original diploma (or a certified copy if required by the university), 2025-YKS placement document or acceptance letter, criminal record certificate, residence certificate from the mukhtar, 6 photographs, certified copies of passport and TRNC ID (for students without Turkish ID, copies must be certified by the Ministry of Interior), medical certificate; applicants to medicine/dentistry must provide a medical board report.
Students without Turkish citizenship must, after registration, obtain a form from the university and submit it to the District Population Directorate in order to be assigned a YU (foreigner identification number). Applications for state KYK dormitories are submitted through the "Yurt Başvurusu" section in YOBİS; payment is made via the KYK website (Ziraat Bank). Scholarship applications are accepted online from 15 September to 31 October.
In case of questions, the TRNC Department of Higher Education is available at (0392) 600 18 30, website — mebnet.net, e-mail: [email protected]. Practical advice: prepare the full set of documents in advance, register in YOBİS, and arrange health insurance within three months after the first enrollment.
