Today marks the 41st anniversary of the passing of Dr. Fazıl Küçük, a key figure in the Turkish Cypriot struggle for freedom. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is holding several commemorative events to honor his legacy.
According to the Central Committee for National Day Celebrations, the first ceremony will be held at the National Hero Monument, starting at 10:26 a.m. The event will include a wreath-laying ceremony, a moment of silence, and the singing of the national anthem. In tribute, state flags will be flown at half-mast.
TRNC President Ersin Tatar will deliver a speech during the ceremony, which will conclude with the signing of a special memorial book dedicated to Dr. Küçük.
The commemoration will then continue at 11:15 a.m. at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) in Lefkoşa. The second event will begin with a moment of silence and the national anthem, followed by speeches from Dr. Fazıl Küçük’s granddaughter, Selen Süheyla Küçük, and President Tatar.
The program will conclude with a moving performance by the choir of the Anatolian Fine Arts School.
Earlier this week, Northern Cyprus also paid tribute to Rauf Raif Denktaş, the founding President of the TRNC.
