In TRNC, the elections to the European Parliament will take place in the buffer zone
Member of the European Parliament, Niyazi Kızılyürek, announced that Turkish Cypriots will be able to vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections at the Goethe-Institut Cyprus in the buffer zone. The voting will take place on June 9, 2024.
In his social media post, Niyazi Kızılyürek noted that for Turkish Cypriot voters to participate in the voting, they will need to pass through Ledra Palace and drop the ballot into the ballot box.
"Our department has been working on this issue for a long time. We have achieved this result thanks to a series of initiatives with the European Commission, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cyprus, and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus. We are very pleased with the result achieved," Niyazi Kızılyürek wrote on his social media page.
The Goethe-Institut Cyprus is located opposite the House of Cooperation of the Goethe Institute.
It was previously reported that 83,000 Turkish Cypriots registered in the electoral lists in the Republic of Cyprus will be able to vote for two seats in the European Parliament. For the first time in the political history of Cyprus, three Greek Cypriot parties have included Turkish Cypriot candidates in their electoral lists for the European Parliament elections.
