Fruits and vegetables with dangerous pesticide levels identified in TRNC
Food inspections conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources have revealed violations in several imported and local products. Pesticides exceeding permissible limits were found in apples, pears, and mandarins, while prohibited chemicals were discovered in a pepper sample.
According to the ministry, from May 4 to 7, the State Laboratory analyzed samples of 50 products — 25 imported and 25 domestic. Pesticide residues were identified in four cases: two imported and two local items.
Among imported products, violations were recorded in Stk variety apples from Hürsen Tar. Ür. Ltd. and S.M. variety pears belonging to SVS Tic. Ltd. In both cases, the plant protection product content exceeded established norms, and the products were returned to their country of origin.
Violations were also found among local products. In peppers grown by farmer Savaş Ozan in Tepebaşı, specialists discovered a non-recommended plant protection product. Consequently, the batch was destroyed.
Additionally, Mandora variety mandarins with excessive pesticide levels were found at the "Şadiman Dilek" company warehouse in Güzelyurt. This produce is also subject to destruction.
The ministry emphasized that food product inspections will continue to protect consumer health and control the quality of goods on the market.
