Scabies Case Reported in Nicosia Central Prison
A case of scabies has been detected in one of the wards at Northern Cyprus’ Central Prison. After an inmate was diagnosed with the infection, the affected cell was evacuated, and prison authorities implemented strict hygiene measures to prevent further spread.
To combat scabies and bedbugs, the prison undergoes regular pesticide treatments, and additional cleaning measures are being reinforced. Hygiene standards are being improved to better protect inmates' health, and the cleaning process will be streamlined with the introduction of new equipment.
To further enhance sanitation standards, a professional cleaning company has been hired. Routine cleaning will now include steam-based disinfection, and all clothing of new inmates will be washed upon arrival. In addition, washing and drying machines will soon be provided to maintain better hygiene.
According to Kıbrıs Postası, previous cases of scabies and bedbugs have been reported in prisons. Authorities assured the public that regular disinfection is being carried out, along with additional measures to protect inmates' health.
Officials expressed confidence that these efforts will significantly improve hygiene conditions and enhance overall living standards within the prison.
Meanwhile, a recent scabies outbreak was reported at Atatürk Primary School, where at least 15 children and one teacher were infected.
