Turkey plans to introduce a system that will allow café and restaurant visitors to view menu prices and services online in advance
Turkey plans to implement a new digital system that will allow café and restaurant visitors to view menu prices and services in advance via the internet. This initiative is being developed by the country’s Ministry of Trade. According to local media, the aim of the reform is to ensure transparency and protect consumer rights in the food service sector.
Currently, many establishments in Turkey do not publish their menus and prices online, which often leads to misunderstandings and customer dissatisfaction. Complaints are especially common in Ankara, where incidents of misleading customers about service costs have increased. For example, in some cafés, waiters add a service fee to the bill without prior notice. There are also cases of supposedly “free” appetizers being unexpectedly added to the final total.
The introduction of online price lists is intended to increase transparency and enable customers to make informed decisions before visiting a venue. The Ministry of Trade expects the system to reduce the number of complaints and improve overall trust in the food service industry.
