For Three Days, Saint Hilarion Castle Has Been Without Water and Electricity
For three days now, there has been no electricity or water at one of the main tourist attractions in Northern Cyprus - Saint Hilarion Castle. Due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, there has been a power outage. A similar situation is being observed in many parts of the country.
According to local media reports, due to the lack of electricity, there is no lighting in the castle, and surveillance cameras are disabled. Additionally, there is no water on the premises of the ancient landmark, resulting in the toilets being overflowing and unusable.
However, despite the utility collapse, the castle remains open to visitors - ticket sellers are selling tickets to tourists, sitting in their booths without electricity.
"This happens every time it rains, every time a storm begins. Okay, they cut off the electricity, but why hasn't it been repaired for three days? We are disgracing ourselves in front of tourists. What kind of mentality is this - to condemn the pearl of tourism to darkness?" - the castle administration staff express their indignation.
According to information obtained by the publication Bagimsiz from the Cyprus-Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK), power outages and disruptions are occurring in many regions, and crews are working intensively. Power officials promise to rectify the malfunction at Saint Hilarion Castle within the day.
