TRNC Authorities Announce Budget Flights to Turkey
The government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has announced the launch of budget flights to Turkey. Starting immediately after the Kurban Bayram holiday, two AJet aircraft will begin operating from Ercan Airport.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel explained that this development came as a result of recent discussions during his visit to Ankara, where key agreements were reached with executives from major Turkish airlines.
According to the Prime Minister, shuttle flights to Istanbul will begin right after the holiday, with plans already underway to introduce low-cost connections to other major cities across Turkey.
In particular, affordable flights will be available to destinations such as Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, and Adana—allowing passengers to travel at budget-friendly prices.
The initial flights between Ercan and Turkey under this new initiative will be operated by two AJet aircraft.
Prime Minister Üstel emphasized that this step is a significant milestone, not just for improving transportation options, but also for deepening the connection between Turkey and the TRNC.
He added that during negotiations, TRNC officials requested that the airlines consider hiring pilots and flight attendants from Northern Cyprus to work on regular flights between the two countries.
