World Children’s Day: KTTB calls for stronger child protection and modernization of the system

On the occasion of World Children’s Day, which is celebrated on November 20, the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association (KTTB) issued a statement emphasizing the need to pay special attention to the protection of children’s rights, including children with special needs.
The statement notes that educational, medical, social and psychological services for children with special needs must be an integral part of the child protection system.
“Children are not only our future, but also our present,” the statement says. The Association notes that adults must not remain indifferent when children’s rights are violated and must listen to their opinions, viewing the child as an active participant rather than an object.
The statement also recalled the theme of World Children’s Day 2025, announced by UNICEF: “My Day, My Rights”, emphasizing the need to listen to the child’s own voice — about their needs, experiences and expectations.
KTTB noted that there are many areas in the country that require improvement in the field of children’s health and child protection.
