During the week from March 4th to March 10th, there were 12 fires and 19 incidents in Northern Cyprus, requiring intervention from rescuers. The total damage from the fires amounted to 2 million 526 thousand Turkish liras.
According to the fire department report, 6 fires occurred in Nicosia, 3 in Kyrenia, 2 in Famagusta, and 1 in Iskele.
Possible causes of the fires include ignition of garbage from unextinguished charcoal in a barbecue or grill, a short circuit in the electrical network, overload on the electrical panel, lightning strike on a parked tractor, and sparks flying out of a welding machine.
In addition to fires, rescuers were called to rescue people trapped in vehicles as a result of accidents, to rescue a goat in a well and a cat trapped in a cistern, as well as to ensure road safety, fire readiness, precautionary measures against fires, and forensic examination of deceased citizens.
