71 traffic accidents occurred in TRNC in one week: 24 people injured
During the period from February 23 to March 1, 2026, 71 road traffic accidents were registered in the TRNC, in which 24 people sustained injuries of varying severity.
According to the police report, 17 accidents involved casualties, while 54 resulted in material damage exceeding 4.2 million Turkish Liras. The main causes of the accidents were speeding (21 cases) and failure to follow priority rules at intersections (18).
During road inspections, police checked more than 17,000 drivers. Approximately 3,000 violations were identified, with speeding being the most common (over 1,200 cases). As a result of the raids, 270 vehicles were temporarily impounded, and 10 drivers were detained. The leading regions for accidents during the week were Gazimağusa and Girne (18 cases each).
