In the TRNC, 81 road accidents during the week resulted in damages exceeding 6 million lira
In Northern Cyprus, during the week, 23 people were injured as a result of 81 road traffic accidents. The total material damage from the accidents amounted to approximately 6 million Turkish lira.
According to the police press service, 25 accidents occurred due to speeding, 18 due to reckless driving, 15 due to intersection crossings without stopping, 13 due to failure to maintain a safe distance, and 10 for other reasons. The total damage from the accidents amounted to 6,284,500 Turkish lira.
Out of the accidents, 33 occurred in Nicosia, 24 in Kyrenia, 12 in Famagusta, 7 in Güzelyurt, and 5 in İskele.
As a result of road checks, 1,139 drivers were caught speeding, 364 were penalized for using a mobile phone while driving, and 103 drivers were found not wearing a seatbelt. Administrative proceedings were initiated against 144 drivers for driving without a license. 88 individuals were found driving under the influence.
In total, during the checks, movement was prohibited for 240 vehicles, and 10 drivers were arrested.
