50 Traffic Accidents in the TRNC During the New Year Week
Between December 30 and January 5, 50 traffic accidents occurred in the TRNC, resulting in 8 people being injured. The total damage from these accidents exceeded 2 million Turkish lira.
According to the weekly police report, 19 accidents took place in both Nicosia and Kyrenia, 8 in Famagusta, and 2 in Güzelyurt. The overall material damage caused by these accidents amounted to 2 million 240 thousand Turkish lira.
Speeding was the most common violation detected during the checks, with 589 instances. A total of 69 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, 199 drivers were caught using their phones while driving, and another 199 were found driving without a license. The remaining drivers were penalized for other offenses.
As a result of the inspections, 182 vehicles were prohibited from operating, and 7 drivers were arrested.
