Livestock Farmers in TRNC Go on Strike
A continuous protest by livestock farmers is underway in Northern Cyprus. The strike began in front of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources building in Nicosia and then continued in front of the Prime Minister's residence.
According to Mustafa Naymogullari, the president of the Union of Animal Producers and Breeders, the action started at 10:00. Livestock farmers from Famagusta gathered at the Hamitkoy roundabout, while producers from Güzelyurt gathered at the Gönyeli roundabout at 10:00 in the morning.
The protesters marched and gathered in front of the "Cyprus Gazette" building, then headed towards the Kyrenia Gates, to the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Entry and exit from the Ministry were blocked by several vehicles.
After issuing a statement to the press, the strike participants proceeded to the Prime Minister's residence, where the main part of the protest action is taking place.
It is worth noting that earlier, the union leader demanded the determination of the price of raw milk, reduction of production costs, and cancellation of the decision to import meat.
