A protocol has been signed for the restoration, development, and management of the recreation area near Kantara Castle in Northern Cyprus. The popular site has been officially transferred to the Iskele Municipality.

Previously, the area was managed by the Forest Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Hüseyin Çavuş, and the Mayor of Iskele, Hasan Sadıkoğlu, with the Prime Minister of the TRNC, Ünal Üstel, serving as a witness.

Under the new agreement, the Iskele Municipality will lease a 17-hectare area adjacent to the Kantara Forest Management. The municipality will oversee the development and operation of picnic areas, camping zones, and walking trails.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, the transfer will enable the municipality to provide more modern services to both residents and tourists at the Kantara picnic area.

The Iskele authorities are expected to renovate the 17-hectare site within the Kantara Forest, known for its natural beauty, and develop it into a more contemporary recreation area. This will include creating sports facilities and establishing the country's first camping sites.
